Good rule of thumb in Hawaii: Do not desecrate iwi (ancestral bones). But leave it to the boy from Jersey to ignore that. Here's a rock through your windshield, Danno.

The gang tries to solve the murder of a couple of documentary filmmakers who trample over Hawaiian burial grounds, then stumbles upon another mystery: multiple bodies freshly buried at the sacred grounds. Good fodder for Halloween. (Photo: The gang guesses at Lori Weston's recently removed costume. Danno: "Wonder Woman? Slutty Wonder Woman?" Norman Shapiro/CBS.)

Here's where they filmed:

  • Looks like a quick shot of the moonlit shadow of Mount Olomana to start. Always thought that mountain looked like the "Close Encounters" mountain from the right angle.
  • Taking a guess at the filming location of the heiau (Hawaiian temple): Looks to be the Kahana State Park ahupuaa on Oahu's Windward side. (An ahupuaa is the Hawaiian land system from a mountain top to the beach and includes irrigable land for farming.) Guaranteed, NOT a real heiau.
  • Honolulu city lights! Ain't nothing like 'em.
  • Danno takes Grace trick-or-treating at the Pagoda Hotel in town. Really, Danno?
  • Great day-to-night time elapse behind the Honolulu skyline.
  • Several shots of Kamehameha Highway on the Windward side (near Kahana State Park).
  • Aliiolani Hale, aka Five-0 HQ.
  • The Hawaii State Art Museum downtown stood in for the "Okalani Hospital." (Inside was the old Honolulu Advertiser building.
  • The "apartment complex" where Danno encounters an Aunty gardening is the Kahala Hotel.
  • The "Makaha" graveyard appears to be the one next to Kawaiahao Church downtown. Makaha is a town on the northernmost part of the Leeward coast.
  • Gorgeous parting shots of Kaneohe Bay and the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

The Quotable Danno

A cursed Danno offers myriad quotables. A selection:

  • "Oh, so good. We have our suspect." —responding to the notion that spirits were involved in the crime
  • "I'm imagining who Lori Weston's alter ego might be. Wonder Woman? Slutty Wonder Woman?"
  • "I don't want to state the obvious, but I think we might do better if we look where the hand is."
  • "Evil spirits, are they gonna come curse me now, or what?"
  • "Keanu, you know Halloween was yesterday, right?"
  • "This is nice carpet. What is this, berber?"
  • "You know, if I was homeless, living in Hawaii, I can think of about 96,000 places I'd choose to live before this one."

Looking forward: Given this was a themed episode, it was self-contained without anything spinning any story arcs forward. But it sure seemed like Lori and McGarrett were getting cozy.

The Clip

Props to the crew for a super creepy intro. You did Halloween proud.
