Lots of ocean, harbor and boat time in Episode 4, as Five-0 solved the murder of a diver with only a severed hand to work with. These detectives have skills. And with a diving episode, all the Alex O'Loughlin fans got the requisite shirtless scene — admittedly, not long enough. (Photo: McGarrett spots his man. Norman Shapiro/CBS.)

Here's where they filmed:

  • Opening shots of Sandy Beach Park.
  • Waikiki Beach is where they found the hand, but note to visitors who may be wary of deep water: It's shallow 30 feet off shore.
  • Quick shots of Magic Island, the Hilton Hawaiian Village and Duke's Lagoon, cutting to Kamekona's (Taylor Wily) new shrimp truck, parked at the lagoon.
  • The Board of Water Supply building on Beretania plays the coroner's office.
  • Quick shots of the Ala Wai and Kewalo boat harbors.
  • The Hawaii Yacht Club at Ala Wai Boat Harbor! (Got excited about that one, longtime family hangout. If you know a member, go. The drinks are cheap, the food is good).
  • There is no Liliuokalani Nursing Home in Waipahu, the structure looks like Queen's Medical Center, Honolulu. **CORRECTION BELOW**
  • The exterior of Bishop Museum and Hawaiian Hall inside.
  • Looks like McGarrett meets flame Lt. Cat Rollins (Michelle Borth) on the grounds of the Hale Koa in Waikiki, next to Fort DeRussy. (And her call for the omakase menu at Sasabune? Spot on. If you're a sushi lover, don't miss it.)
  • Kono's (Grace Park) house — Manoa Valley.
  • They were at the real JPAC — the Joint Prisoners of War, Missing in Action Accounting Command. Here's a photo of Cmdr. Joe White (Terry O'Quinn) at the shoot.
  • Quick shots of the State Capitol building and the Ala Wai Canal drifting into night.
  • Last scene: Hickam AFB, military burial ceremony.

The Quotable Danno

  • "Why are we tagging this guy as a homicide? This guy? It's a hand."
  • "One day, you're king of the ocean, next you're hanging from the ceiling and little children are looking at your private parts." — referring to the whale display in Bishop Museum's Hawaiian Hall
  • "Every single relationship starts with a cup of coffee."
  • "Oooh, even I know what that means. The boat's anchored."

And a special guest-quip shout-out to Dr. Max Bergman (Masi Oka):

  • "This place is like my Graceland." — referring to JPAC

Looking forward: Kono gets an emotional lifeline from Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim), Lt. Rollins gets shipped off (clearing the way for ?? with Lori Weston (Lauren German)), and Danno gets a coffee date with the lovely Bishop Museum Dr. Gabrielle Asano (Autumn Reeser). Things should blossom soon. When is sweeps?
