So McGarrett "chums the waters" to catch the Wo Fat shark by releasing one of his henchmen in the premiere, thus introducing the most talked-about moment for Season 2: a new member of Five-0.

Lauren German makes her debut as Officer Lori Weston in the capacity of babysitting the unit for Lt. Governor Sam Denning (Richard T. Jones). (Alex O'Loughlin, Lauren German and Scott Caan on the case. Photo: Norman Shapiro/CBS)

Some early scene spotting for next week's episode based on the preview:

  • The governor's residence (aka Washington Place) is where we meet Weston for the first time.
  • Areas around Aliiolani Hale and Iolani Palace are where Weston and McGarrett are walking, and where Kono (Grace Park) and Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) are talking.
  • Can't make out the restaurant where Weston and McGarrett are having their heart-to-heart, but the episode will likely reveal more.
  • Tom Sizemore, above, who guest stars as Capt. Vince Fryer of Internal Affairs, makes a press announcement on the steps of Aliiolani Hale — that's the Kawaiahao Church in the background. (Photo: Norman Shapiro/CBS)

Importantly, it looks like many scenes for next week's episode were filmed on Molokai, marking the first time the series is showing big love to a neighbor island. (Up to this point, we've seen some gorgeous "quick shots" of neighbor isle locales as segues between scenes, but not as backdrops to episode plots.)

Check out McGarrett riding roughshod over (what looks to me like) the red clay cliffs near Maunaloa on the west side of Molokai:

The plot, according to the presser from Surfline: "Tune in to CBS on Monday, September 26 as Hawaii Five-0 features the Molokai-2-Oahu Paddleboard World Championship (M2O) in the second episode of season two. In its 15th year, M2O was identified by the Hawaii Five-0 producers as an authentic Hawaiian event to be showcased in the modern version of the legendary prime-time police drama set on the Hawaiian Islands. Check local listings for show times.

Titled "Ua Lawe Wale," the upcoming episode of Hawaii Five-0 features actual footage of the M2O event held on July 31, 2011, including footage of Haile Harrison, the 2011 women's stock SUP winner and youngest woman to cross the channel solo in M2O history. Ua Lawe Wale is Hawaiian for "Taken". The episode centers around the kidnapping of the women's Stand Up Paddleboard winner - the youngest ever record winner. Although Hawaii Five-0 re-enacted the M2O finish line for the show, actual race footage is featured throughout the episode, introducing a worldwide audience to the beauty and allure of the Ka'iwi Channel."
