Thousands greet the stars at 'Hawaii Five-0' premiere in Waikiki

The stars of "Hawaii Five-0" were on hand — as were thousands of the filmed-in-Hawaii show's fans — for the Season 2 premere in Waikiki yesterday. Almost as big a star was the surf hitting the south shore: Not at the epic levels of a couple weeks ago, but clean, rolling head-high sets for miles. It was the perfect backdrop for the year's biggest Sunset on the Beach event.
Last year I was down with the fans lining the red carpet. This year I got a bird's-eye view at the Aston Hotels Five-0 pre-party at the Coconut Club, on the 21st floor of the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel, just across the street from the event. (And walked away with some excellent schwag after spinning the prize wheel and correctly answering which network "Hawaii Five-0" aired on — yes, they were tossing softballs.) Stunning views as we enjoyed mai tais, coconut shrimp and other tropical fare from Tiki's Bar & Grill, and listened to live surf rockabilly — not a bad way to enjoy the event. Not five-feet-from-Scott-Caan excitement, but pretty impressive.
The crowd roared and camera flashes burst when the cast lined up on the stage before the show: Stars Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, along with regulars Taylor Wily (Kamekona), Teilor Grubbs (Grace), Masi Oka (Dr. Max Bergman) and Mark Dacascos (Wo Fat), and new Season 2 stars Terry O'Quinn and Lauren German. As for the first episode? No spoilers here: Just get ready for some explosive action for the network premiere on Monday, Sept. 19. And tune in then for our weekly scene spotting blog to see where in Hawaii they filmed.
