It's been a long summer for "Five-0" fans, but our favorite filmed-in-Hawaii series returns to CBS on Monday, Sept. 19 — with McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) behind bars, Kono (Grace Park) in trouble for the HPD asset forfeiture locker heist, Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) returned to his old job as Honolulu police detective, and Danno (Scott Caan) trying to sort out the mess, including the dissolution of the Five-0 unit. Cliffhanger accomplished. Nicely done, "Five-0" writers.

Fortunately the wait is over! (Sigh of relief...) The new season includes a host of celeb guest appearances and character arcs, including Oscar-winner Patty Duke, Peter Fonda, Tom Sizemore, a "Lost" reunion (Terry O'Quinn and Daniel Dae Kim) and a "Heroes" reunion (Masi Oka and Greg Grunberg), and an "NCIS: LA" storyline crossover with Daniela Ruah.

The mega-fans will be at the red-carpet premiere with the series stars on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Sunset on the Beach, at the giant screen at Queens Beach in Waikiki — a full nine days before the rest of the world gets its hands on it. A few tips if you're going to go:

  • Go early. Thousands attended the premiere last year — and that was on a Monday. It's sure to be a madhouse.
  • Bring sunscreen. The show won't air until nightfall, but if you go early, that beautiful Hawaiian sun will fry you, even past 4 p.m. Thankfully, the ocean is right there should you need to cool off.
  • Bring friends. You don't have to worry about bringing large coolers of food and drink (frankly, there won't be room). It's Waikiki. You'll be surrounded by food and drink, including booths set up at Sunset on the Beach. However, you'll need friends to save your spot during the food runs. A towel marker may not do the job. Besides, all that oohing and aahing over McGarrett and/or Kono (depending on your preference) is an experience better shared.

A new season means new Hawaii filming locations, so be ready for the return of our Scene Spotting posts this fall on the "Hawaii: Live in 3D" blog. (You can fly to Season 1's top locations off our Scene Spotting page on 3DHawaii — create your own tour based on the series when you next visit Oahu!)

UPDATE

A preview of the Season 2 opener was released by CBS. This should make "Lost" fans very excited:
