On to Episode 7. Thanks to the producers for a nice tribute to James MacArthur, the original Danno, who died last week at the age of 72. Happy to see Kamehameha Schools grad Kelly Hu guesting as the governor's safety liaison, and local journalist Kim Gennaula as a Navy therapist. But veteran actor Robert Loggia had the line of the show when he asked McGarrett if he was talking to his wife when he was talking to Danno on the cell phone. It's true: McDanno is becoming the hot couple of the moment.Neil Jacobs/CBS
The USS Missouri, aka the Mighty Mo, took center stage on this episode for the hostage drama in which two Navy SEALS face off: Guest star Adam Beach ("Letters from Iwo Jima," "Law & Order") and Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin). The grand ship had a major renovation last year and was looking good on the show, if we could all stop staring at O'Loughlin's abs long enough to appreciate her.
As the primary location, there weren't tons of other fly-tos, but they included:
1) A quick shot of the Ala Wai Canal in Waikiki, leading up to the Gold Coast next to Diamond Head Crater.
2) Ford Island, centered in Pearl Harbor, where the military housing was.
3) Tripler Army Medical Center, below. Next to The Royal Hawaiian, the pinkest building on the island.
Anybody happen to know where the building that played Child Services was? I didn't recognize it.
We had a quick shot of Haleiwa near the Anahulu Stream bridge, and then suddenly jumped to the south shore and Ala Moana Beach Park, above. Where, I'm sorry to say, Waiola Shave Ice is not. But you can find Waiola
and Waiola II
in their proper places in town. Good shave ice.
An overhead of the Capitol Building near Iolani Palace and Aliiolani Hale, which plays Five-0 headquarters, followed by — and this is a guess — one of the smaller commercial runways at Honolulu International Airport where they caught the bad guy.
The Quotable Danno
"Good luck, Aquaman!"
"I swim very well, actually. I just choose not to."
... And an honorary nod to Robert Loggia for "You talkin' to your wife?"
