'Hawaii Five-0' sneak: Don't surf that wave

Friday, January 21, 2011

Next week's drama (airing SUNDAY after the Jets-Steelers game) centers on the Five-0 unit racing to solve the disappearance of the head of the tsunami warning center before a tsunami wipes away the evidence. That may be the very definition of a bad coincidence.

Hawaii had a big tsunami scare last year, on Feb. 27, following Chile's devastating 8.8 quake. Fortunately, the waves that rolled in only created some erratic tides and there was no damage or loss of life. We'll see how this manufactured one plays out. (Hilo on the Big Island has borne the brunt of major tsunamis in 1948 and 1960 — you can learn about it at "Hidden Hawaii: Hilo.")

Locations seen in the preview: Kono is giving Danno a surf lesson at Ala Moana Beach Park, the boys are running around the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, and there is panicked, tsunami-fleeing gridlock on the H-1 Freeway (as opposed to the regular gridlock).

Where else will they go? Tune in next week. Fly in 3D to the top filming locations on our Hawaii Five-0 Scene Spotting page »
